Indonesia finds traces of radioactive element at clove farm

Radioactive element detected at clove farm in Indonesia

Indonesia detected cesium 137 at a clove plantation in the search for the source of radioactive contamination leading to recalls of shrimp and spices exported to the U.S. The U.S. FDA blocked imports of spices from PT Natural Java Spice after finding cesium 137. A task force found contamination in Lampung province, recommending halting sales of contaminated clove products. Contamination was also traced to a steel factory near a shrimp processing facility that exports to the U.S. Health risks are low, but it is crucial to identify the contamination source and inform the public. Authorities are working to localize and address the contamination issue.
