The Bears’ attempt at Ben Johnson’s famous “Stumblebum” trick play falls short
Former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson gained fame for trick plays such as “Stumblebum,” where the quarterback and running back fake a fumble to confuse the defense. As head coach of the Bears, Johnson attempted the play again with quarterback Caleb Williams, but it failed to deceive the Raiders in a game today. Unlike the successful execution in Detroit last year, the Bears’ attempt fell flat due to poor acting and the Raiders’ preparedness for the play. Johnson has yet to replicate his offensive success from the Lions in his new role as head coach of the Bears.
