Super Typhoon prompts evacuations and closures in Northern Philippines and Taiwan
Super Typhoon Ragasa, one of the strongest typhoons this year, hit northern Philippines and threatened flooding and landslides in neighboring Taiwan and southeastern China. Thousands evacuated, schools and offices closed. The typhoon caused power outages and evacuations in the Philippines, with no immediate reports of casualties. President Marcos Jr. suspended government work and classes in affected areas. Taiwan and China also prepared for the typhoon, with closures and evacuations in place. Hong Kong and Macao closed schools, airlines suspended flights, and residents were urged to prepare for possible evacuation. China’s weather agency warned of torrential rains and heavy winds.
