Investigation launched into Tesla after reports of faulty door handles trapping children in the back seat
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating Tesla Model Y electronic door handle defects that have trapped children in the back seat, prompting parents to break windows to get them out. The probe focuses on 2021 models after receiving nine reports of inoperative door handles due to low battery voltage. Tesla has installed manual door releases inside the vehicles, but NHTSA noted that a child may not be able to operate them. Numerous incidents of door problems in Tesla vehicles have been reported, including cases of entrapment and burning vehicles after accidents. The investigation covers approximately 174,300 midsize SUVs.
