Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy to Miss Week 3 vs. Bengals With Sprained Ankle

Vikings Quarterback J.J. McCarty Out for Week 3 Game Against Bengals Due to Sprained Ankle

Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy will miss the upcoming game due to a sprained ankle. McCarthy initially continued playing after the injury occurred late in the third quarter of the previous game against Atlanta, but his ankle pain worsened overnight. Coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed that Carson Wentz, a recent addition to the team, will start in McCarthy’s place against Cincinnati. Meanwhile, the Bengals will be without starting quarterback Joe Burrow, who will undergo toe surgery and be out for at least three months. Jake Browning will fill in for Burrow, who previously started for the Bengals in 2023 due to a wrist injury. Wentz, who played for the Eagles, Commanders, Rams, and Chiefs in recent years, has not yet appeared in a game in 2025.
