Giants put Smith on IL with hamstring strain, bring back Encarnacion from IL
Dominic Smith suffered a right hamstring injury during a game against the Dodgers and was placed on the injured list, potentially ending his regular season with only 15 games left. Infielder/outfielder Jerar Encarnacion was reinstated from the injured list after dealing with his own hamstring issue. Without Smith, Rafael Devers and Wilmer Flores will play first base for the Giants. Encarnacion, who has had a season plagued by injuries, hit two home runs in his first game back before injuring his hamstring. Pitchers Carson Whisenhunt and Erik Miller are also recovering from injuries, with Whisenhunt closer to returning than Miller.
