Ex-NFL RB convicted for role in dogfighting outfit

Former NFL Running Back Found Guilty for Involvement in Dogfighting Ring

Former NFL player LeShon Eugene Johnson, 54, from Oklahoma has been convicted of six felony counts related to a large-scale dogfighting operation. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count. Johnson operated Mal Kant Kennels in Broken Arrow and Haskell, breeding pit-bull-type dogs for dog fights. The government seized 190 dogs from him earlier this year, with allegations that he bred dogs that had participated in fights. Johnson’s lawyer claims he was only a breeder of American pit bull terriers and was acquitted on most counts. Johnson had previously pleaded guilty to state animal fighting charges in 2004.
