Saints sign former Colts safety Julian Blackmon after Tyrann Mathieu announces retirement, per report

Report: Saints sign Julian Blackmon, former Colts safety, following Tyrann Mathieu’s retirement.

The New Orleans Saints’ secondary lost three-time Pro Bowl safety Tyrann Mathieu to retirement, but quickly signed former Indianapolis Colts safety Julian Blackmon as a replacement. Blackmon, who signed a one-year extension with the Colts last season, has recorded seven interceptions over the past two seasons. Despite injuries limiting his playing time, Blackmon has shown promise with 300 combined tackles, 21 passes defensed, and 10 interceptions. In New Orleans, he joins a safety room that includes Justin Reid and others. The Saints struggled in the previous season, finishing 5-12 with a defense that allowed the third-most total yards per game in the NFL.
