Levi Onwuzurike’s Season Cut Short by Surgery, Dealing Another Blow to Lions’ D-Line

Detroit Lions defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike is out for the season after knee surgery, leaving a gap in the team’s lineup. Lions coach Dan Campbell announced the news before the team’s first training camp practice. Onwuzurike had a career-high 11 games last season, stepping in after Alim McNeill’s injury. With McNeill also sidelined, rookie Tyleik Williams may play a significant role. The Lions will also rely on veteran defensive tackles DJ Reader and Roy Lopez. Williams, a former Ohio State standout, was drafted 28th overall. Detroit will face the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 7 to start the season.
