NFLPA Executive Director’s Job in Jeopardy Following Confirmation of Collusion Findings
NFL Players Association executive director Lloyd Howell Jr. celebrated the union’s communication with members during Super Bowl LIX. However, less than a month earlier, he worked with the league office to keep players unaware of an explosive collusion decision. An arbitrator found no collusion by owners, but evidence showed commissioner Roger Goodell and general counsel Jeff Pash urged owners to restrict guaranteed money in player contracts. Despite this, Howell and other NFLPA leaders agreed to keep the decision private, leading to an appeal six months later. The NFLPA has a history of secrecy, including the process that led to Howell’s appointment in 2023.
