Former Michigan assistant coach denies involvement in hacking charges
Former football coach Matt Weiss entered a not-guilty plea for hacking into the computer accounts of college athletes to find intimate images of women. An indictment accuses him of unauthorized computer access and identity theft from 2015 to early 2023. A lawsuit was filed against the University of Michigan, alleging they failed to supervise Weiss. He downloaded personal information and medical data of over 150,000 athletes from 100 colleges. Weiss primarily targeted female athletes based on their affiliation, history, and physical characteristics. He kept notes on photos and videos he downloaded. Prosecutors are aggressively pursuing the case to protect citizens’ private accounts. Weiss was fired in 2023 after failing to cooperate with the investigation.
