Steelers part ways with experienced pass rusher in a move to reduce costs just months after acquiring him from Packers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released veteran outside linebacker Preston Smith, freeing up $12 million in cap space as they prepare for the 2025 free agency season. Smith was acquired just before last year’s trade deadline and only had two sacks in eight games with the team. Despite his recent dip in production, Smith should have a decent market as he has accumulated 70.5 career sacks. The Steelers will now look to find a replacement for Smith, who will begin searching for a new team. Pittsburgh already has three-fourths of its pass rushers in place with T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig.
