Howard Twilley, a receiver on the Miami Dolphins’ undefeated 1972 team and two-time Super Bowl champion, passed away at 81. He caught the first touchdown in Super Bowl VII, helping the Dolphins cap the NFL’s only perfect season. Twilley played 11 seasons in Miami and was the third-leading receiver on the 1972 team. In college, he excelled at Tulsa, leading the nation in catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns in his junior and senior seasons. He was a two-time All-American and runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. Twilley’s contributions to both the Dolphins and Tulsa football are fondly remembered, and he is a member of multiple sports halls of fame.
