Ex-Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy steps back from Saints search, plans to take a break in 2025
Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy will be a free agent through the 2025 season after his contract expired with the Cowboys and he wasn’t signed to an extension. He will sit out the 2025 season and has removed his name from consideration for the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching vacancy. Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is a favorite for the Saints’ job. McCarthy has an impressive coaching record with a Super Bowl championship with the Green Bay Packers in 2010, but faced criticism for not achieving more with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. He believes he is a winner and hopes to be considered for a head coaching job again in the future.
