The Cowboys have named Brian Schottenheimer as the franchise’s 10th head coach in history
Tom Landry served as the first head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for 29 years before being fired by Jerry Jones. Jones has now hired Brian Schottenheimer as the team’s 10th head coach. Schottenheimer, who previously served as an assistant under Mike McCarthy, convinced the team to give him his first head coaching job. Despite interest from other candidates, Schottenheimer’s dedication and enthusiasm won him the position. The Cowboys also considered Leslie Frazier, Robert Saleh, and Kellen Moore for the job. Schottenheimer will need to quickly fill coaching positions as several assistants have already found new jobs. Matt Eberflus is the front-runner for the defensive coordinator job, pending compliance with the Rooney Rule.
