NFL stadiums will soon double as disaster shelters in new agreement with FEMA, per report

New Agreement with FEMA Will Turn NFL Stadiums into Disaster Shelters, Report Says

The NFL and FEMA have partnered to allow football stadiums to be used as emergency shelters, temporary hospitals, or other venues during disasters. MetLife Stadium, Acrisure Stadium, Lumen Field, and Raymond James Stadium have signed on, with SoFi Stadium expected to join soon. The cost of operating the shelters during federally declared disasters will be negotiated among local, state, and federal officials. This idea was inspired by New York City using stadiums during the COVID-19 pandemic. This agreement comes after the Superdome served as emergency shelter during Hurricane Katrina, and as Florida prepares for Hurricane Helene.
