Former GM has wild suggestion for Steelers’, Vikings’ QB situations

Ex-GM proposes unconventional solutions for quarterback dilemmas in Steelers and Vikings

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Steelers had not chosen between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields as their starting quarterback for Week 1. Former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum suggested the Steelers trade Wilson to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for Sam Darnold. Tannenbaum also recommended Pittsburgh sign Ryan Tannehill as Fields’ backup. The Vikings seem committed to Darnold as their starter, despite J.J. McCarthy’s injury. Both Wilson and Fields are on one-year contracts, making a trade plausible. However, as both were free agents this offseason, their trade value is low. The Steelers may consider Tannehill if Wilson or Fields are injured.
