Vikings’ top draft pick, JJ McCarthy, sidelined for entire 2024 season due to torn meniscus injury
Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy will miss the entire 2024 season due to a torn meniscus in his right knee that required surgery and a full repair. McCarthy, who led Michigan to a national title before being drafted by the Vikings, was injured during his preseason debut. Head coach Kevin O’Connell announced that Sam Darnold will be the starter to open the season, with Nick Mullens as the backup. The team has no immediate plans to add another quarterback. McCarthy will not return until 2025, ending his rookie season before it even began.
