Ex-NFL player Cierre Wood sentenced to life in prison for the murder of five-year-old
Former NFL running back Cierre Wood was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years for the April 2019 death of his girlfriend’s five-year-old daughter. He reached a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse. Wood claimed he was trying to discipline the child with exercise, causing her fatal injuries. The child’s mother, Amy Taylor, also pleaded guilty to the same charges. La’Rayah Davis died from blunt force injuries, including broken ribs, internal bleeding, and a lacerated liver. Wood played for the University of Notre Dame and briefly in the NFL and CFL.
