Patriots release JuJu Smith-Schuster as part of team’s rejuvenation effort
ESPN reporter Mike Reiss covers the New England Patriots and recently reported on the team releasing wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. Smith-Schuster signed a three-year, $25 million contract in 2023 but was let go due to younger players showing promise and his performance in training camp. Despite his release, the Patriots will still have to account for $9.6 million of salary cap space for him this year. With new leadership, the team is leaning towards more youth at the wide receiver position, leaving only a few spots open for veterans like Smith-Schuster. The Patriots won their preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers 17-3.
