Man sentenced to two years in prison for stealing Hall of Fame ring from American footballer
Andre Reed, a former American football player, had his Hall of Fame ring stolen from a London hotel room. The thief, Gary Towsey, was caught on CCTV trying to sell the ring at a jeweller’s for its gems. When the shops refused to buy it, Towsey asked for the ring to be dismantled, and they complied. Reed was devastated by the loss of his unique and irreplaceable ring, which held sentimental value as a recognition of his NFL career. The gems were eventually returned to Reed, but the experience left him feeling violated and unsafe. Towsey was sentenced to 25 months in prison for handling stolen goods and fraud.
