N.F.L. Defensive Coaching Genius Monte Kiffin Passes Away at Age 84
Monte Kiffin, a successful coach with numerous N.F.L. and college teams, passed away at 84. He led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense to Super Bowl victory in 2003 with his innovative Cover 2 defensive scheme. Kiffin was also known for coaching at other prominent teams including the Dallas Cowboys and the University of Mississippi. His son, Lane, followed in his coaching footsteps. Kiffin’s coaching mantra emphasized playing hard, fast, and together as a team. He was posthumously honored with the Award of Excellence by the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021. Kiffin is survived by his wife, two children, a sister, and grandchildren.
