Monte Kiffin, the innovative defensive coordinator behind the “Tampa 2” defense, passed away at 84. He coached at both NFL and college levels, with a career spanning back to 1966. Kiffin’s defense helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win Super Bowl XXXVII, with future Hall of Famers on his team. He played a role in hiring assistant coaches who later became NFL head coaches. Kiffin was honored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame for his contributions to the game. He leaves behind sons Lane, the Ole Miss head coach, and Chris, a linebackers coach for the Houston Texans. His legacy in football coaching will be remembered.
