Jacksonville City Council approves allocation of $775M in taxpayer funds for upgrades to Jaguars stadium

The Jacksonville City Council approved $775 million in public funds for renovations to the Jaguars’ EverBank Stadium, with the team responsible for the remaining $625 million. The project, scheduled for completion by the 2028 NFL season, is the largest capital project in the city’s history. The deal includes a 30-year lease for the team, with Jaguars owner Shad Khan estimated to have a net worth of $12 billion. Renderings of the upgrades include a transparent roof and reduced seating capacity. The stadium will undergo construction starting in 2025, with the Jaguars temporarily playing elsewhere in 2027. The Mayor and Khan praised the historic deal.
