NFL Plans for Big 2024 Christmas Schedule: First Wednesday Doubleheader in 88 years Scheduled by League
The NFL has changed its mind about scheduling Christmas games for 2024, opting to schedule a doubleheader on Wednesday, despite previous concerns about playing on that day. This decision marks just the third time in 75 years that the league has played a Wednesday game. Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that Wednesday games will only occur when Christmas falls on that day. The NFL has found success with Christmas games, with a tripleheader in 2023 averaging 28.7 million viewers. Teams playing on Christmas will also play on Saturday in Week 16 to accommodate the midweek game. This will be the fifth consecutive year of Christmas games for the NFL.
