Report: Trade involving Armstead and Collins between 49ers and Texans fails to materialize
The 49ers attempted to trade Arik Armstead to the Texans for Maliek Collins, but the deal fell apart after Houston signed Danielle Hunter. They eventually traded a 2024 seventh-round pick for Collins before releasing Armstead, creating $18 million in salary-cap space. Armstead’s release is designated for post-June 1, spreading his “dead money” over two years. Collins has an $8 million base salary in 2024 and $9.5 million in 2025. The move was made to free up cap space to potentially retain Brandon Aiyuk and Brock Purdy. Armstead, a 49ers captain, was a casualty of the team’s need to shed high-priced contracts.
