Report: 49ers bring on Nick Sorensen as defensive coordinator and Brandon Staley, per source
The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly promoted Nick Sorensen to defensive coordinator and added Brandon Staley to their staff after parting ways with Steve Wilks. Sorensen, a former NFL defensive back, has been with the 49ers for two seasons and previously coached for the Seahawks and Jaguars. Staley, the former head coach of the Chargers, will have a prominent staff role with the 49ers. Staley previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Rams and has experience coaching in the NFL. The 49ers had a strong defense in 2023, ranking No. 8 overall in total defense but struggled in the postseason.
