Steelers cut starting center Cole, saving $5M
The Pittsburgh Steelers have released starting center Mason Cole, clearing $5 million in cap space. Cole, who played 34 games for the Steelers after being acquired in free agency, was inconsistent in his performance. The team is now looking for an upgrade at the position, with the NFL announcing a $30 million increase in cap space. Cole, who will turn 28 next month, had one year left on his contract. The Steelers, who have the No. 20 pick in the upcoming draft, closely evaluated offensive linemen at the Senior Bowl in search of a new starting center.
