Lions OC Ben Johnson was reportedly ‘turned off’ by Commanders ‘basketball guys’

Lions Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson Was Reportedly Displeased with Commanders’ Emphasis on Hiring ‘Basketball Guys’

Ben Johnson, offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, was in demand as an NFL head coach but ultimately returned for a sixth season with the Lions. He was reportedly turned off by the Washington Commanders’ ownership, who are primarily from basketball backgrounds. Washington eventually hired Dan Quinn as head coach. Under Johnson’s leadership, the Lions had one of the best offenses in the league and quarterback Jared Goff saw a career resurgence. The Lions had a successful 12-5 season and made it to the NFC Championship Game. Whether Johnson’s return will make the Lions favorites next year remains to be seen.
