Dallas Cowboys: Where NFL coaching careers go to die

Dallas Cowboys: The End of the Road for NFL Coaching Careers

The Washington franchise fired head coach Mike Shanahan in 2013 after a 24-40 four-year record. Many of Shanahan’s assistants went on to become successful head coaches in the NFL. In contrast, the Dallas Cowboys have not had the same success in developing future head coaches from their assistant coaching staff. Their recent defensive and offensive coordinators have not had sustained success in the NFL after leaving the Cowboys, with only a few exceptions. The conservative approach to coaching hires and reluctance to take risks is reflective of the Cowboys’ front office leadership, particularly Stephen Jones.
