Patriots plan to elevate Covington to defensive coordinator
Mike Reiss, NFL reporter at ESPN and New England Patriots’ coverer, reports that the Patriots are planning to promote defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington to defensive coordinator. Covington has been with the team for eight seasons and has worked closely with head coach Jerod Mayo. His solid work with the defensive line has led to his promotion. This move is expected to keep much of the team’s defensive staff intact. The Patriots are still interviewing candidates for offensive and special teams coordinator positions. Covington’s promotion is expected to be official soon, and the Patriots continue to make moves to strengthen their coaching staff.
