Coroner: Ex-Buc Williams died of bacterial sepsis

Former Buccaneers player Williams died from bacterial sepsis, coroner confirms

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Syracuse star wide receiver Mike Williams died at the age of 36 due to a rare bacterial sepsis caused by a construction accident. The accident resulted in head trauma and led to his hospitalization, where he suffered cardiac arrest and eventually died. The medical examiner’s office ruled that the direct cause of death was bacterial sepsis due to poor dental health. Williams, who retired from the NFL in 2016, was working for a contractor in Tampa at the time of his accident. The medical examiner’s report also indicated a history of marijuana use, social alcohol use, and daily use of Kratom. No foul play was suspected in his death.
