NFL Reduces Texans’ Denzel Perryman’s Suspension to Two Games for Repeated Illegal Hits
Houston Texans linebacker Denzel Perryman was initially suspended for three games by the NFL for repeated violations of playing rules aimed at player safety. The suspension was reduced to two games on appeal. Perryman was penalized for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase during the Texans’ Week 10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. NFL vice president of football operations Jon Runyan wrote a letter to Perryman, explaining the violation and emphasizing the importance of playing with safety in mind. Perryman has a history of six similar violations throughout his career. He can appeal the suspension and would miss games against the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Denver Broncos. He has 41 tackles so far this season, with the Texans currently standing at 5-4.
