NFL, NFLPA agree to revised gambling policy

Revised Gambling Policy Jointly Approved by NFL and NFLPA

The NFL and NFLPA have agreed to a revised policy regarding betting on football and other sports. Under the new rules, players who bet on NFL games not involving their own team will face indefinite suspensions of at least one year, while those who bet on games involving their club will be banned for at least two years. Players found guilty of match-fixing will receive lifetime bans, and providing inside information for bets will result in one-year suspensions. The punishments for gambling on non-NFL events have been lessened, with first-time offenders receiving two-game suspensions and repeat offenders facing longer bans. Lions wideout Jameson Williams and Titans right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere will be allowed to return to action in Week 5 after serving six-game bans for betting at NFL facilities. The new policy was developed due to “inconsistencies” in the previous policy, and the league plans to educate players on the changes.
