NFL tightens restrictions on players betting on their own team
The NFL has revised its gambling policy and is allowing three players who received longer suspensions to return to their teams. Tennessee’s Nicholas Petit-Frere and Detroit’s Jameson Williams can return on Monday, while free agent Stanley Berryhill can participate in all activities from Tuesday. The new policy reduces the punishment for gambling on non-NFL sports from team facilities to two games. However, gambling on NFL games now carries a minimum suspension of one year, and betting on a player’s own team has been raised to two years. The league is committed to protecting the integrity of the game and has consulted with the NFL Players Association and teams to ensure clear and communicated policies. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell or a designated person will decide violations of the gambling policy, with different penalties for various offenses.
