Report: Cowboys Gave Trey Lance Second-Round Grade Ahead of 2021 NFL Draft
The 49ers traded quarterback Trey Lance to the Cowboys, who were reportedly interested in him. Lance was demoted to third string, and the 49ers received a 2024 fourth-round pick in return. Two years ago, the Cowboys had a second-round grade on Lance. Despite a mixed performance in the four games he started for the 49ers, Lance was thrown into the fire last season due to injuries. General manager John Lynch expressed disappointment that it didn’t work out for Lance in San Francisco. The 49ers quickly found a trade partner, but it’s not an ideal situation given the players they could have selected with the No. 3 overall pick. However, a fresh start in Dallas could help Lance unlock his potential with the guidance of quarterback Dak Prescott.
