Panthers agree to terms with No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young on fully guaranteed contract

When the Carolina Panthers report to training camp, they will have their new quarterback, No.1. overall pick Bryce Young, ready to go.

The Panthers announced on Friday that the team and Young agreed to terms on a contract less than 24 hours before the team’s rookies report to camp on Saturday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Young’s contract is worth a fully guaranteed $37.9 million, including a $24 million signing bonus that Young will get as soon as he officially signs the contract.

The Panthers landed the No. 1 overall pick in a pre-draft trade with the Chicago Bears that saw them send several draft picks and wide receiver D.J. Moore the other way.

Carolina is hoping that Young can end the revolving door of quarterbacks the team has been using ever since Cam Newton’s departure.

Young had an incredible career at Alabama and was the top quarterback prospect in this year’s class. He brings a strong arm and mobility to the position and will almost certainly be starting at some point this season, if not right away. The Panthers also have veteran Andy Dalton and second-year quarterback Matt Corral on their depth chart.

The one knock on Young coming out of college centered around his size, but he has every other trait a team could possibly want in its franchise quarterback. The Panthers have not had a winning season or made the playoffs in five years. With Young and new head coach Frank Reich, they are starting a new chapter that they hope can get them back to serious contention.
